Asilia are a company built by passionate people with long-standing roots in the original family-run safari companies of East Africa, such as Ker and Downey, which originated in 1946, Rekero Camp in 1986 and Olivers Camp in 1992.
Now the are leader in the industry with 15 camps in Tanzania and 5 camps in Kenya
With a pioneering eye, our founders, many of whom are still involved today, combined their safari experience, passion, and commitment to East Africa, and in 2004, formed Asilia Africa.
Pietro had been in charge for several years of the guiding and guide training department, leading more the 90 guides.
He created the Asilia foundation program that traines guides from scratches and works through specific courses in the bush and a mentorship program to constantly develop new quality guides, he also created the Asilia walking guide training program, that in the years graduated more then 15 guides to be leading walking safaris through an extremely rigorous and challenging path that lasts more the two years.
He is now part of the Asilia fundi team, the special experts that are called in for special requests.

Established in early 2003 by three friends (writer and journalist Riccardo Orizio, who had been dreaming of setting up his own Africa dream for 20 years as the driving force) , Saruni is today a company that own and runs four properties: Saruni Mara, Saruni Samburu, Saruni Wild and Saruni Rhino which is based in Sera Community Conservancy, Northern Kenya. The conservancy is also home to the only community-owned & run Rhino Sanctuary in East Africa in which Saruni guests can track 16 black rhino on foot in the safety of Saruni guides and Sera Rangers using traditional Samburu tracking methods.
Pietro’s collaboration with Saruni dates back many years. He trained the guides both in Samburu and Mara and more recently was in charge of the training of both Saruni guides and NRT rangers for approaching black rhinos on foot in Sera Conservancy.
